We first reported on the McMansion epidemic in the DC area HERE. It seems as though this is an issue across the country as the square feet per person within houses increases. (Read this and this) However, couple this with the fact that people in the DC area are currently in mass exodus of the burbs and moving inward. Does that mean that soon we’ll have huge dormitories instead of apartments inside the beltway? I doubt it. But since DC has an extremely low rate of unemployment (5.7 all around and 4.8 in the closest Maryland burbs), I have a feeling that these changes have to do with other things… like under-the-table employment things. Or maybe they want to be close enough to steal from the Obama’s vegetable garden. What do you think?

Tourist Invasion
January 27, 2009 · 2 Comments
I can’t honestly say that I’ve never seen so many people in my life, but I can say that I’ve never seen so many friendly and cheerful people in one place in my life. Everyone was in good spirits, despite the crowds and freezing temperatures. There was no pushing, no riots, no bombs, and only one incident of a rude tourist cutting us off and whacking my friend in the face with his folding chair. (To which we all pointed out to said tourist his rude behavior as he just walked away, and he continued glaring at us as if WE had walked into his chair as he cut across the mob, swaying his chair from side to side… besides, weren’t folding chairs on the list of prohibited items?) Anyway, here are some crowd shots I took:

Wearing his Sunday best for Obama

The last time this guy wore these pants must have been at the inauguration of Jimmy Carter, because he definitely did not fit in them anymore. Apparently that doesn’t phase him – he let it ALL hang out!

Daughter – “I can’t feel my toes”
Mom- “Pick up that flag and smile. We want to look happy for the TV cameras so that our neighbors back in Dayton are jealous of all the fun we are having!”
Daughter – “But mom, I can’t even see the Capitol from here”
Mom – “Shut up and smile!”

The Purple Tunnel of Doom
January 23, 2009 · 4 Comments
What is the Purple Tunnel of Doom? The truth is… we don’t really care, but apparently some very bitter tourists do. It’s a group of bitter tourists with purple tickets to the inauguration who didn’t make it into the seating area in time for the inauguration and complain about “relieving” themselves in the tunnel (gross). They’ve decided to organize themselves, similar to a union or protest, and are talking about class action lawsuits against the Obama administration. Read more at the Survivors of the Purple Tunnel of Doom homepage on Facebook.
